Production cycle

Producing potato is an operating system-wide approach. The quality of the potato plant depends firstly on suitable rotations, at least 4 years is required in accordance with the official technical regulation of certified potatoe plant production.

Choice of varieties

This is an essential step in the production route. LSA chooses a a variety adapted to the commercial outlet, the pedoclimatic conditions of the plot (exposure, soil type, ...) and parasitic pressure.

LSA also puts all works about it to prepare its seedlings in an optimal way before the plantation. This preparation requires several tasks:

  • To ventilate on the outlet side of fridge so that all the tubers of the case are at the good temperature.
  • To heat the seedling before plantation and to leave it 10 minimum days before plantation so that it is at the outside temperature.
  • To treat the seedling before plantation against Rhizoctone and the scale silver plated

The objective is to prepare a well crumbled ground, without mounds nor stones to support a regular development of the tubers and to avoid the shocks with harvest. The soil preparation requires all a series of technical operations requiring a specific equipment to place the culture under optimum conditions for growth. The soil preparation is reasoned according to the structure of the ground.

  • A loosening of in-depth grounds
  • A plowing as soon as the conditions allow it after a light drying of the grounds
  • A crumbling followed by a billonnage
  • To finish a sifting, this phase consists in taking again the ground hillock formed by the billonnor in order to separate the mounds and the stones from the bed of seeds

For the plantation we choose to reason the date of plantation (around mid-April) according to the precocity of the seedling and the local climate and thus to support a fast lifting, to limit the rhizoctone and the adventitious one.

Being given the impact of the diseases and attacks of ravageurs on the output and quality, it is important to effectively protect the culture from potato. The cultures of seedlings are the object of controls at all the stages: analyses of the grounds before plantation, controls in préculture, controls in culture, analyses of samples to harvest.

During this period, the phase of purification intervenes. That consists in passing in all the rows of the pieces by eliminating all seedlings from potato being able to harm the quality of the production, the goal being to leave only the healthy seedlings, unscathed of contamination and the same variety.

The quality of the potato seedling also depends on the phase on harvest/storage: :

After défanage, we expect a deadline from 4 to 5 weeks before tearing off the seedlings, to allow a good maturity of the skin as well as a good degradation of the tubers mother.

The reception is done thanks to a combined hopper, following the reception of the seedling, one carries out a good unearthing using whorls deterror on this hopper. A pre sorting of the product on table of visit is carried out then, at the end of the chain, one treats the seedling before storage what allows a good cicatrization of the wounds during pulling up and to avoid certain rots, essential stage before being able to handle the seedling. All batches, and all the pieces are identified with sampling of 20 tubers by trailers with the reception.
Once the batches identified and put in cases, begins the phase of storage.

Thanks to its 2 chains of reception and its 18,000 tons of storage, the private limited company can take delivery of its own production and collect the harvest of ten of the twenty producers of LSA.

The goal of this storage is to maintain the quality medical of its production.
LSA stores its potato seedlings in its refrigerating buildings ventilated by aspiration and under controlled temperature.
Thanks to our workmanship of the systems of conservation (temperature, hygroscopy, renewal of air), we maintain the quality medical of the seedlings to its maximum.

The potatoes are stored in cold room in cases palox of 2 tons, and are preserved at a temperature of approximately 6°C until mid-January (period of conditioning for export). Then for later forwardings (French market and European), one descends the temperature until 3° – 4 °C.

After one period minimal of storage in our fridge, the phase begins from calibration/sorting from potatoes. It is a question of into force preparing the marketing of the production collected while respecting the official standards.

Sorting according to the gauge, or calibration, makes it possible to select:

  • seedlings for export (gauges 35-55, 35-45, 30-55)
  • tops of seedlings (+55mm)
  • “number 1” (28-35)
  • as well as the shot (-28mm)

It is at the time of this phase of conditioning that the collector asks for the certification of its production in order to affix there a plant health certificate issued by the agents of the SOC.
This certificate or “European plant health passport” guarantees that the quality standards were thus respected and allows the traceability of the product whatever its final destination.

We propose various types of conditioning according to your needs and the destination :

  • Bags of 25 kg and 50 kg is juicy
  • Big-bag
  • Polyplant 25 kg
  • Conditioning in bulk

Le transport of the seedlings is very delicate, this last phase must respect the quality of all work upstream.

LSA suggests solutions of transport and logistics adapted to the wishes of its many customers. The routing of the products to the final recipient, must be made under the most optimal conditions.

LSA delivers potato seedlings:

  • by terrestrial way sometimes of tens of trucks per day.
  • by sea route, starting from the various wearing of France (Brest, Le Havre, Mounting block, and Marseilles), with departures out of containers or boats (flat or on pallets), and boats refrigerating.

For an assumption of responsibility personalized at the request of its customers, LSA works with several carriers who are today of true partners, among them:

about lsa

Sometimes, the chance of a meeting makes rock the life of a company. It is what arrived at the GIE the Sport selectors of Armorique, known from now on under the name of limited liability company LSA. In 1998, four producers of seedlings of Finistere, gathered within a GIE, meet a Tunisian. And it's a catch. Seventeen years after, 7,000 tons of seedlings, on 18,000 T marketed, are exported by LSA towards Tunisia.

At the origin, the regrouping in GIE is justified by the will to become assignee of varieties of the station of Kerloï of Brittany Seedlings. It is besides at that time that they acquire Eden, a variety intended for the market of the expenses. Come then Gourmandine in Co-attribution in 2000, and many others thereafter.

But what really makes take off the activity of the GIE, it is export. Thanks to the installation of the pieces of demonstrations in local producers, and the making of contact in other countries of North Africa, the company develops gradually. Arrived in 2007-2008, the orientation export of the company gains in importance, volumes grow quickly. In 2010. 6 000 tons are exported.

The vision of the four associates diverges however, and they separate. Two of them are devoted more to the market of the expenses, the two others with export.

Limited liability company LSA is created, with like associated Earl de Kergleuz from Dominique Morvan and the limited liability company Roudaut d' Alain and Jean-Luc Roudaut. 2010 mark also the beginning of the activity of collector of seedlings.

Nowadays, LSA collects 20 producers for 650 ha and 80% of marketed volume are carried out by free varieties such as Spunta, Hermes, Cara, Wished, Nicola, Diamond. The 20% remainders relate to varieties for which LSA is assignee, Co-assignee, or has an agreement of development: Eden, Gourmandine, Dounia, Kenza, Nessma, Selena, Pomdor and Maldive.
This is why since 2011, through an exclusive convention, Anane Hassem works for LSA in Tunisia like on Algeria, Lybie and Egypt in particular. He sets up pieces of tests in the producers, promotes our new varieties, and technically assists the producers and distributors of LSA. The choice of one partner to export is indeed crucial.

Fowarding production
Sales strategy

  1. Decided to increase in power on the Maghreb countries, limited liability company LSA developed a collection of producers gradually and supplements by one…
  2. Dominique Morvan, Alain and Jean-Luc Roudaut, a team tightened to be reactive with export. Six screening machines on the table of visit for a chain which can reach a flow from 150 to 180 tons/day.
  3. Now that they reached the course of the 15,000 tons as exporters towards Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria, the Breton associates of limited liability company LSA seek to still diversify their markets and to install their exclusivenesses such as Kenza, Dounia, Nessma and Eden.
  4. LSA, first French exporter of seedlings in Tunisia, extend its development while betting, at the sides of the impossible to circumvent free varieties, on its own resources which are in particular Kenza, Dounia and Selena.
  5. Control its marketing. Alain and Jean-Luc Roudaut represent the third generation of seed potato growers on their Plounéventer farm ...
